No you werent lucky enough to start with another pitch, once you earn some breaking ball points you can redeem them for a new pitch. (2 for new pitch, 3 for upgrade lvl)

As in the real game, switching roles as hinges on the trust you have with your coach, i would guess if you are trusted enough to start, you arent trusted enough to switch roles. Try asking the coach after you have 10 eval points!
